Evangelicalism: The Coming Generation

"Looking at what he calls 'The Coming Generation' of Evangelical opinion leaders and elites . . . Hunter draws a nuanced and finely detailed portrait of young Evangelicals who, while certainly more conservative than the mainstream of American Protestants, are at least ambivalent about some important aspects of fundamentalism and at most ready to repudiate elements of fundamentalist faith, politics, and practice. . . . With this book, James Hunter confirms his position a s one of the most informed and informing writers on American Evangelicalism."â€"Samuel C. Heilman, This World

Private Military and Security Companies: Ethics, Policies and Civil-Military Relations (Routledge Military Studies)

Over the past twenty years, Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs) have become significant elements of national security arrangements, assuming many of the functions that ha ve traditionally been undertaken by state armies. Given the centrality of control over the use of coercive force to the functioning and identity of the modern state, and to international order, these developments clearly are of great practical and conceptual interest.

This edited volume provides an interdisciplinary overview of PMSCs: what they are, why they have emerged in their current form, how they operate, their current and likely future military, political, social and economic impact, and the moral and legal constraints that do and should apply to their operation. The book focuses firstly upon normative issues raised by the development of PMSCs, and then upon state regulation and policy towards PMSCs, examining finally the impact of PMSCs on civil-military relations. It takes an innovative approach, bringing theory and empirical research into mutually illuminating contact. Includes contributions from experts in IR, political theory, international and corporat e law, and economics, and also breaks important new ground by including philosophical discussions of PMSCs.

White, Christian

Fiction. Introduction by Bruce Benderson. The borderline lifestyle of twenty-year-old Christian White is a carnival of drugs and sex, accessorized by designer clothes and frequent stealing or scamming. Underneath the decadence are haunting memories of childhood abuse, the death of a brother and a father's criminal past. Expecting to make a fresh start, Christian relocates from San Francisco to New York, just as his friends are being rounded up by the police; but life only spirals farther out of control in the new setting. Instead of drugs, Christian's existence is beginning to center around sex. He has let himself slip into prostitution, and he may have even played a part in the murder of a successful architect, although he can't remember the evening entirely. It has become increasingly clear to Christian that the only way to save himself is to come to terms with the past, no matter how painful--or how dangerous--the trip.

Question by Faelynn H: Good colleges in Europe that offer many foreign languages and International Business?

I am an american and am planning to go back to college with possibly a major in international studies but my main goal is to become fluent in as many languages as possible. I have some experience in multiple languages but would like a school that have many options and feel Europe would be a great start to work towards my bachelors or associates degree. Does anyone have any Schools in mind. I am open to anywhere, preferably western europe. I am not looking to study abroad for 1 semester i would like to be abroad for the whole thing.

Uncertain whether there are colleges who offer courses in both these areas though.

Since you're not from the EEA or EU, Amercian being, I suggest you to have a look over here for additional financial ai d (part from your own wallet that is):

What Bothers Me Most about Christianity: Honest Reflections from an Open-Minded Christ Follower

A Provocative Discussion on the Messiness of Faith

It may seem odd that an avowed Christ follower would write a whole book on the bothersome aspects of Christianity. But if we're honest, we c an't ignore the fact that some things about Christianity are just plain messy.

Without fear or hesitation, Ed Gungor joins the discussion generated by the multitude of atheistic books, as he explores the most difficult aspects of the Christian faith, including...

  • Why doesn't God just show Himself?
  • Why does a loving God allow evil in His world?
  • If the Christian faith is so good, why are some Christians so bad?
  • Why was God so harsh during Old Testament times?
  • Why is the Christian faith so exclusive?
  • Maintaining that faith is not intellectual suicide and that mystery is an essential quality of the Christian belief, Gungor speaks with reason, candor, and a touch of humor to thinking people on both sides of the debate.

What If You Knew You Were Going to Live Tomorrow? You've prayed the sinner's prayer. You know that if you die tonight, you'll go to heaven. But Todd Hunter believes Christianity is a life, not merely a secure death. Which means that eternal life--abundant life--begins on earth, as soon as we become a follower of Jesus. Drawing from his leadership and ministry experience as president of Alpha USA and from his own study and life experiences as an ordinary Christian, Hunter calls us to reframe our salvation and discipleship to focus on life, instead of just heaven and hell. God's intention, he says, is for us to become God's cooperative friends, seeking to live consistent lives of creative goodness for the sake of others. These pages lead us into this abundant way of living, offering
    • the whole scope of God's story and how you fit into that
    • guidance on the Holy Spirit's role and power in your life
    • creative ways to love, serve and respond to seeking friends
    • help for starting a "Three Is Enough" small group
Jesus came that we might have life--not just in heav en, but here on earth where he walked and lived among us. And your friends who are hurting, hopeless or hungry for something real need to see what difference life in Christ makes. This timely, biblical paradigm from Todd Hunter will inspire and equip you to live your days with intention, participating in God's work in the world today. It just might change the way you look at life forever.

State-Building: Governance and World Order in the 21st Century

Francis Fukuyama famously predicted "the end of history" with the ascendancy of liberal democracy and global capitalism. The topic of his latest book is, therefore, surprising: the building of new nation-states. The end of history was never an automatic procedure, Fukuyama argues, and the well-governed polity was always its necessary precondition. "Weak or failed states are the source of many of the world’ s most serious problems," he believes. He traces what we knowâ€"and more often don’t knowâ€"about how to transfer functioning public institutions to developing countries in ways that will leave something of permanent benefit to the citizens of the countries concerned. These are important lessons, especially as the United States wrestles with its responsibilities in Afghanistan, Iraq, and beyond.

Fukuyama begins State-Building with an account of the broad importance of "stateness." He rejects the notion that there can be a science of public administration, and discusses the causes of contemporary state weakness. He ends the book with a discussion of the consequences of weak states for international order, and the grounds on which the international community may legitimately intervene to prop them up.
