What is the best Marilyn Monroe biography book to read?
Question by aves888: What is the best Marilyn Monroe biography book to read?
I'm interested in reading about Marilyn Monroe and her life before I buy Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, Letters by Marilyn Monroe. Which biography book on her would you suggest gives me the most accurate depiction of her and her life?

Hands down, Marilyn Monroe: The Biography by Donald Spoto. There are so many books out there that are nothing but tabloid trash. There are tons full of easily disproven lies, but someone new to reading about her wouldn't recognize what's factual and what isn't. Donald Spoto is considered to be the definitive biography, meticulously researched, and his facts have withstood time as being indisputable. A few other good ones are:
Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed by Michelle Morgan
Norma Jeane by Fred Lawrence Guiles
My Sister Marilyn by Berniece Baker Miracle
Marilyn: The Ultimate Look At the Legend by James Haspiel
You should avoid these books like the plague:
Anything by Robert Slatzer
Norma Jean by Ted Jordan
Marilyn, Joe and Me by June Dimaggio
Goddess by Anthony Summers
Anything by Donald Wolfe
Marilyn Monroe Confidential by Lena Pepitone
